Folk Ensemble - eight 90 minute classes Wednesdays 7:30pm (1st class Wed Jan 9th 7:30pm)


This class is open to adults age 21-plus. All skill levels welcome.

Students will learn to perform a range of traditional and contemporary folk music ranging from bluegrass, blues, ragtime, and polkas, to jigs, hornpipes waltzes and reels in a fun laid back group atmosphere. Students will listen and learn through a variety of exercises with the goal of gaining a deeper appreciation and understanding of the stylistic building blocks of each genre; and to play some of their favorite folk tunes in solo/group settings.


Adult Folk Ensemble is a great opportunity to learn more about roots and Americana styles in a laid back, positive, encouraging setting. Exercises will include, singing, basic sight-reading, basic notation, and group ensemble dynamics necessary to form a string band.

Advanced classes will lead to improvisation and composition.

No music theory knowledge is necessary, we will work to accommodate different levels of proficiency and learning styles.

Students must bring their own instruments and a notebook to class each week.

Appropriate instruments for this class: violin/viola, cello, acoustic bass, guitar, mandolin, banjo, flute, recorder, and voice.

Rock Band 101 - eight 90 minute classes Thursdays 7:30pm (1st class Thurs Jan 10th 7:30pm)


This band is open to adults age 21-plus. For beginner to experienced-beginners. For guitar, bass, keyboards, vocals, string instruments, drums, percussion.

This class will help beginner level players understand the basics of performing in a group setting. Students and instructor will decide on songs to work on for this class, and instructor will help the band learn how to memorize and play several songs during this 8 week course. Each class will start with a review of the previous week's assignment, and then a rehearsal. Students will then work on learning and playing a new exercise or song section for the rest of class. Students will record a video performance at the end of the 8 week course.

We have bass, electric and acoustic guitar, digital and acoustic drums, grand piano, and Nord stage keyboard. We will provide sheet music and folders, but students must bring their own notebook to class each week.

Students will receive weekly listening and performance assignments. Links will be sent out via google group.
